“We’re here. Be still, Rais. Be a good girl.” – Rais’ Mother
God’s Specimen Box is a powerful and emotionally charged 2D visual novel-style horror game that delves into a range of dark, mature, and thought-provoking themes. These include abuse, religious indoctrination, classism, racial prejudice (explored through the lens of human–demon dynamics), cannibalism, assault, abortion, and the psychological impact of being confined by labels imposed by others.
Developed for the Spooktober Game Jam, God’s Specimen Box is set in a surreal, asylum-like environment that serves as the backdrop for a deeply unsettling narrative. While grounded in fantasy and horror, the game draws clear parallels to real-world social and psychological issues, using its disturbing atmosphere and complex storytelling to explore the human condition under extreme circumstances.
~ Rais’ Mother ~
Although she only speaks a few lines in the prologue, Rais’s (currently faceless) mother plays a crucial narrative role. Her brief appearance sets the emotional tone for Rais’s backstory, offering players an early glimpse into the oppressive and unsettling environment she comes from. Despite limited screen time, her presence casts a long shadow over the game’s events, especially as Rais later reveals the abuse she suffered under her care. Her voice and demeanor help establish key themes of control, trauma, and emotional repression that are explored throughout the story.
