Story Brief
Hidden away in the forests southwest of Riverwood sits a humble little cabin—one that every Skyrim player has stumbled across at least once. Nestled among the trees, the elderly hermit Anise appears to live a quiet, solitary life… but appearances can be deceiving.
Anise is, in fact, the Hag Queen—a formidable practitioner of dark and vile magic, the primary antagonist of Coven of Crones, and the very first character credited in the official cast list. She also features prominently throughout the Creation’s official trailer, setting the tone for the dark journey that awaits.
Drawing inspiration from Auntie Ethel in Baldur’s Gate 3, this nightmarish villain is equal parts charming, unsettling, and utterly relentless. She’ll test your resolve, twist your expectations, and stop at nothing to spread her influence across the world of Mundus.
The question is… can you stop her before it’s too late?
Who is Anise?

Anise is the Hag Queen of the Marshes, a cunning and ancient sorceress whose greatest weapon isn’t her magic, but her patience.
To the people of Skyrim, she’s merely an elderly hermit living quietly in a lonely shack outside Riverwood. In truth, it’s a carefully crafted disguise concealing a monstrous hag of immense power. Her true form is tall, gaunt, and deeply unsettling, radiating decay, sulphur, and death itself.
Cold, calculating, and utterly in control, Anise never raises her voice without purpose. Every word is measured, every threat deliberate. She delights in manipulating those around her, speaking with quiet confidence and condescending amusement rather than overt rage. Even in the heat of battle, she remains composed, a predator certain she is the most dangerous creature in the room.
Inspired by Auntie Ethel from Baldur’s Gate 3, Anise blends charm with menace, luring her victims into a false sense of security before revealing the terrifying force beneath the façade. Though physically imposing and more than capable of tearing an opponent apart with her claws, she favours overwhelming her enemies through devastating dark magic, treating combat as a demonstration of absolute superiority rather than a desperate fight for survival.
